Nichelle Borders brings a smile to the faces of the county auditor's staff when she delivers interoffice mail through her job with Christie Lane Industries, so they decided to bring a smile to her recently. Borders showed up with the mail and the staff surprised her with a birthday card, cupcakes, a song and a shirt with Border's signature lines as she delivers mail "I am happy" and "I am cute." Christie Lane Industries, part of the county's Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (MRDD) program, has the county contract for interoffice mail delivery. Borders has worked at her job for several years. Deputy Auditor Beth Osborn organized the birthday celebration for Borders. "We love seeing Nichelle in here," Osborn said. "She is just a special person. We get a kick out of her." Osborne had a shirt made with "I am happy" on the front and "I am cute" on the back. She said Borders was a little embarrassed by the attention. "The girls from out front came out and we sang to her. It made her blush," Osborn said. Individuals with disabilities ranging from infants to senior citizens receive services from the Huron County Board of MRDD. The agency provides for the services through Christie Lane School, Huron County Help Me Grow, early intervention, family resource services, Christie Lane Industries, sheltered employment, community employment, recreation/athletic programs, adult habilitation services, service and support administration and residential opportunities.
